Dr. Berthold Kuhn is a political scientist and international cooperation advisor. He works as an adjunct professor (Privatdozent) at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science (OSI), Freie Universität Berlin and as consultant to the European Commission, United Nations organisations, German development cooperation, consulting firms and non-governmental organisations. He has worked in many European, Asian and African countries, in research and international cooperation projects.
Dr. Berthold Kuhn was a professor at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University (2 years) and School of Public Affairs and School of Public Policy, Xiamen University (2 years) and a GIZ-CIM and Rhineland-Palatinate cooperation expert in China. He has made substantial contributions to the promotion of international cooperation and strategic partnerships between leading German and Chinese Universities.
His publications and reports deal with international and development cooperation in theory and practice, with focus on the Sustainable Development Goals, state-market-civil society cooperation, climate protection policies and governance, civil society and non-governmental organisations (NGO), human rights, social and labour standards, participation issues, capacity development, and monitoring and evaluation.
His teaching experience covers Master and Bachelor level courses and executive training courses for diplomats, government officials and project managers in English and German on a wide range of political science/political sociology topics
Berthold has worked and travelled in more than 70 countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and Africa, and is fluent in German, English and French and able to communicate in Chinese.
